True DIY = you source every component, manage shipping/lead times, install the enclosure, mount the projector, run the wiring, calibrate the system, and troubleshoot everything yourself.
It's doable. It's also a project.
What "professional" actually means
A turn-key install means you sign one contract, write one check, and someone delivers a working simulator. Typically includes:
- Site assessment and dimensioning
- Equipment procurement
- Shell work (electrical, lighting, climate)
- Install + calibration
- Warranty + service relationship
Cost difference
For an equivalent equipment package, expect:
- DIY: Equipment cost only — typically saves 25–40% on the total project
- Hybrid: DIY the shell, pro the install — saves 10–20%
- Pro: Full turn-key — premium for time, warranty, and finish quality
Timeline difference
- DIY: 3–6+ months depending on your free time
- Hybrid: 6–10 weeks
- Pro: 4–14 weeks (longer = more custom finish work)
When DIY is the right call
- You're handy and have weekends
- Your shell (garage, basement) is already finished

When pro is the right call

- It's a commercial install with downtime cost
